Interventional pain, peds radiology fellows; anesthesiology resident join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Charles “CC” Martin IV, M.D.

Dr. Charles “CC” Martin, an interventional pain fellow in the Department of Anesthesiology at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology.

After receiving his B.S. in microbiology magna cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2011, Martin earned his M.D. in 2015 at UMMC, where he had a medicine internship from 2015-16, anesthesiology residency training from 2016-19 and the interventional pain fellowship.

An active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and the American Medical Association, Martin is the author or coauthor of six posters presented at scientific meetings nationally. He has obtained a National Institutes of Health grant to study the prevalence of chronic opioid therapy in the elderly population of Mississippi, and his research interests include numerous quality improvement projects.

Kartik Reddy, M.D.

Dr. Kartik Reddy, recently a pediatric neuroradiology fellow at Children’s Hospital Colorado, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology.

After receiving his B.S. in biology from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, in 2008, Reddy earned his M.D. at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, in 2012. He had a medicine internship from 2012-13 and a diagnostic radiology residency from 2013-17 at the University of South Alabama, Mobile; a neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora, from 2017-18 and a pediatric neuroradiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora, from 2018-19.

An active member of the American Society of Neuroradiology, the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology and the International Stroke Conference, among other professional organizations, Reddy has given multiple presentations at both national and international scientific meetings. His research interests include stroke imaging and oncologic imaging in both adult and pediatric populations.

Christiano Dos Santos E Santos, M.D.

Dr. Christiano Dos Santos E Santos, recently an anesthesiology resident at the University of Texas at Houston-Memorial Hermann Hospital with more than a decade of experience as an anesthesiologist and a former faculty member at Santa Monica Hospital, Goiania, Goais, Brazil, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology.

Santos earned his M.D. at the Faculdade de Medicina de Campos, Brazil, in 1996. He had an anesthesiology residency at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas, Brazil, from 1997-99 before serving as an anesthesiologist at Sao Jose do Avai Hospital, Itaperuna, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 1999-2000 and at Equipe de Anestesia, Inc., Goiania, Goias, Brazil, from 2000-12.

Santos joined the Pontific al Catholic University of Goias, Brazil, faculty in 2007 as an assistant professor and director of pharmacology and as an assistant professor and director of anesthesiology. He also served stints as medical director and director of the Intensive Care Unit at Santa Monica Hospital and director of the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at Urgency Hospital of Goiana, Brazil, among other positions. He had a neuroanesthesiology fellowship from 2014-15 at the University of Texas at Houston and an anesthesiology residency from 2015-19 at UMMC, where he was a chief resident and received the 2019 Alpha Omega Alpha Resident of the Year Award, Mississippi Chapter.

Santos works as a researcher with his mentor, Dr. Bernadette E. Grayson, studying spinal cord contusions and traumatic brain injury. He received the 2019 Gold medal for the Best Research Award at the World Congress on Neurology and Brain Disorders, Paris, France, for the project, “Metabolic Biomarkers for Injury Progression in a Rodent Model of Spinal Contusion.”

The author of two articles in peer reviewed journals and one textbook chapter, Santos has given 11 presentations at scientific meetings in Brazil and France. He will represent UMMC as a speaker at neuroscience meetings in Rome, Italy and London, England, in 2020. He is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care, among other professional organizations.
